What can I do for you?

Every project is unique so I will give you a no obligation quote once I have details like proposed deadlines, type and length of work and the service required.

I offer a free sample edit of 1000 words to help us decide if we are a good fit.

I am trained to edit using Word track changes and comment boxes, or in PDF files using Adobe mark up tools.

Please get in touch by email or through the contact form to give me an idea of the service you require. I can then let you know if I can meet your needs.

Once a decision has been made to work together, we will both sign clearly defined and agreed terms and conditions. This ensures we are both sure exactly what to expect, including timings and scope of the project and of course the agreed fee.

If it looks like I won’t be able to help you with your project I can suggest other editors who might be better able to support you.

I am currently offering introductory rates to suit your budget - do get in touch to find out more. I’m looking forward to working with you!

Proofreading

I check for typos, grammar errors, inconsistency, correct punctuation, clarity, and design and layout.

As a human proofreader, I am better placed to spot errors in context than an AI grammar and spellchecker. The human brain has the advantage of common sense over the computer.

To help give an idea of pricing for a professional proofreader, the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP) offer the suggestion of £30.75 as a minimum hourly rate.

I currently offer introductory rates so please do get in touch to find out more. I would love to hear from you.

Proof-editing

Proof-editing is a relatively new term to describe the combination of a copy-edit and proofread. It is a kind of hybrid of copy-editing and proofreading.

This can be especially useful if your budget is tight and your text needs just that bit more work than a proofread. Sometimes it is only when an editor sees the project that it becomes clear that the text is not quite ready for the final proofreading stage.

Proof-editing improves the flow of the text and can strengthen the message.

This is where a sample edit is useful as it allows us the chance to decide and agree what your text requires.

My logo features a daisy because the word ‘gowan’ is a Scottish noun, meaning a wild white or yellow flower, especially a daisy. Just in case you were wondering! (Which I’m sure you weren’t.)
